The Galley micro bar

The Galley at Swillbrook Boatyard is a delightful little waterside bar and gathering place on the Lancaster Canal which opened on July 24th 2021. It quickly became a popular meeting place for the local community during the Covid Pandemic lock-down restrictions.

Due to re-open at the end of July (31st) the cafe-style micro bar welcomes boaters, walkers, cyclists and local residents alike.

The Galley is tucked away behind the boatyard, overlooking the water in a quiet canal-side setting, which offers mostly outdoor seating, and a cosy indoor space for cooler days. The perfect place to slow down, enjoy a drink, some friendly conversation or perhaps just pensive contemplation, surrounded by nature, watching the boats drift by.

The Galley is known for its homely atmosphere, quality ingredients and relaxed approach to hospitality. Susie’s freshly made weekend cakes being a favourite with many returning visitors throughout the season in the past.

The bar re-opens on July 31st 2026,  running a drinks only service until lfurther notice.

When open the Galley hosts a variety of friendly community events including Halloween quizzes, curry nights and German Beer Festival celebrations and this year hopes to introduce a more artistic approach during the week with art workshops run by resident artist Susie George. The space is also available for private hire, making it an ideal location for small gatherings, celebrations and informal events in a peaceful Lancashire canal-side setting.

For more details on venue hire please contact Susie through the website.
